Hi, just a quick question I tried to attemp part B) of one of the questions from the immunology section! Following on from the cardinal signs of inflammation (which was fine) I know that histamine, complementm kinins and prostaglandins are all chemical mediators.. I've researched the ones I dont know well at all.. But still having trouble putting it in context/answer.. has anyone else done this question and could help me out?
Hi Olivia,
ReplyDeleteNot sure if you were able to come up with an answer to this yet. I am having same difficulty. So far I got
Histamine - granules of mast cells and basophils - promotes vasodilation, increase permeability of local capillaries, promoting exudate formation
Kinins - effects are same as for histamine, induce chemotaxis of leucocytes, induce pain
Hope this covers it.
Prostaglandins - effects are same as for histamine, induce chemotaxis of neutrophils, induce pain
Complement - plasma proteins - once activated release chemical mediators that amplify inflammatory process
