2012 Exam period preparation
Lets get the ball rolling ......
Consider the following case:
Anna is a married 58 year old who migrated to Australia 10 years ago. She has 3 adult sons who
all still live at home and spends most of her time cooking and looking after
the four men in her family. Anna was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes five
years ago after feeling lethargic and run down for quite some time. She is well
controlled at this present moment. The dentist has referred her to you for a
periodontal assessment. She is currently on Metformin,
Norvasc and also takes Crestor. She is moderately overweight and finds it
difficult to find the time needed to look after her health properly.
Brainstorm the following questions:
1. What is Type II Diabetes?
2.
What are the causes or
predisposing conditions of Type 2 diabetes?3. Identify is the mode of action of each of Anna's medications.
4. Why do you think she is on this combination of medications?
5. Are there any dental side effects of these medications?
Have a go at these OSCA style questions.
